On Sunday, Star Trek: Discovery Actor, Anthony Rapp, alleged that Kevin Spacey made inappropriate sexual advances toward him back in 1986. Rapp, who was 14 at the time, alleges that Spacey invited him to his home for a party. Later that evening, Spacey carried Rapp up to his bed, climbed on top of him and proceeded to make a sexual advance. Spacey was 26 years old at the time.
“My stomach churns,” Rapp says of the horrifying experience with Spacey. “I still to this day can’t wrap my head around so many aspects of it. It’s just deeply confusing to me.”
Not long after the story was published, Spacey posted to his Twitter account that he doesn’t remember the encounter, “But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior,”
Later in the post, Spacey took the initiative to come out as gay. “As those closes to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man.”
Rapp spoke about the importance of speaking out about his experience, saying it is “to try to shine another light on the decades of behavior that have been allowed to continue because many people, including myself, being silent. … I’m feeling really awake to the moment that we’re living in, and I’m hopeful that this can make a difference.”
The allegations against Spacey come after a string of sexual harassment accusations against film producer and executive, Harvey Weinstein, who has been reported to have paid off accusers and has since been terminated from The Weinstein company.
